How retrieval-augmented generation works
- Your documents are split into passages and indexed, for example in an AWS Bedrock Knowledge Base.
- A question retrieves the most relevant passages.
- The model answers only from those passages and cites each one.
What a good citation looks like
- It names the document and the section.
- It links straight to the source.
- It shows a confidence signal, so readers know when to double-check.
The result
When people can click through to the source, they trust the answer, and they tell you quickly when a document is out of date. That feedback loop is worth more than any model upgrade.
